Okay, your opinion. Laptop or desktop?
I will be in the market for new computer soon and need your comments. I'm not a gamer, nor do I have extensive files or documents for my home computer. Plenty of pictures, though! What would you think is best?

That's funny, I was thinking about asking the same question myself. Here's what I've been thinking, though you might wait for other answers too...

Laptops are just as powerfull as desktops nowadays and have harddrives with just as much room. They take up less room, and are, of course, more portable. Why not get one over a desktop?

But it will feel kind of funny to not have a big hulking thing on my desk...

I tend to think of my laptop as a portable extension of my big computer, not as 'the main' computer. That is kind of silly of me though, because technology moves on and not having a big computer taking up so much space is a good thing.

However, with laptop computers being smaller and portable, they are more prone to loss, theft, and damage. If either of us use it as the main computer storing all our pictures and such, a good backup solution will be critical. We'll need to either manually back up to disks and keep them seperate from the laptop, or (better) have an automatic backup process either physically (some kind of hardware solution on location) or online (there are several services where we can upload things to their server nightly).

I think I've talked myself into a laptop! But I've got a few more months to think about it before I am ready to buy myself :)

That's my thought process so far...

Good luck!

Laptop! Laptop! Laptop!

I've had both. LOVE MY LAPTOP! I have an old Toshiba.

I am like you....lots of pictures and I
do e-mail.

I enjoy bringing it downstairs to show
frieds the latest photos of my grand children. Also, I can take it if I go somewhere, but I don't recommend long trips with anything you have to carry.

Depends, a desktop will cost less, but will use more power, is not portable, and has to have a place to live.
A laptop will probably cost more, will use about a third of the electricity, and can go with you where ever you go.
A Desktop is easier to work on and add upgrades to. I know that this has not helped much but will give you some things to consider.

Thanks to all! How could I choose a "best" answer as all were very, very good considerations!
I do think a laptop will be it, as a certain HP has caught my eye. Larger memory....but larger overall
:(
The less electric is good and I'd not even thought of the outside storage for safety (a friend of mine just had hers stolen...with all her pictures and stored family recipes!).

I tell you, this only depends where you from, and what are the market of your opening product.

Answer Writing Tips

Be kind and clear. Please provide more than a yes/no answer. Expand on your answers with details, alternate solutions, and appropriate links.

You may add an answer even if another has already been chosen 'best'. You might have a better answer which will benefit the community and future visitors.

Webmasters - you can post a link to your own site in the answer, if it is a legitimate part of your answer. Links contained in the body of the answer are not 'live' though. If you want a live link, please add it to your profile.
