My question is how does a doctor know that you need Paxil and not IMAO if the depression signs are the same?

They don’t know, but laughing is just as good as any medication so many times. I don’t doubt that this question will be removed, we need health and happiness, not judgement and deciet. They have to stop and listen and that is not what they want to do, it is not financially beneficial to them. Then it puts stress on us trying to make them listen, care, and understand so how is that good for the mental health of America? I don’t know? I think what you mean is that the so called symptoms are normal reactions to things that people go through in life and it would be absolutely abnormal for a person not to have any feelings about some of this stuff at all. So at least I have tried to answer this.

Im guessing you must be from spain or somewhere round there. theyre more commonly reffered to as maoi in other countries
They are both just types of antidepressants. what anti depressant works for you is not determined by what your specific symptoms are and often requires a bit of experimentation.
MAOIs are a whole lot older. they have a bit of a blanket approach- they inhibit a whole lot more than just serotonin (which is what prozac and paxil do) newer anti depressants, the ones you term ‘normal’ are a whole lot more refined and target specific things. this does not necessarily make them more effective.
MAOIs are usually used as the last line of defence, when all other medications have failed. basically because they interact with a lot of foods and medications with potentionally leathal results. they are a lot more dangerous and you have to be very careful about what you eat. you cannot consume alcohol, cheese, fish, beans, yeast extract and some other things at all and there are many other foods that you can only have in very small amounts.
so basically, the newer anti depressants are a whole lot safer. many it is impossible to overdose on and kill yourself.

A doctor doesnt know what your going to end up needing or what will work for you but they work from the principle of safest first

MAOIs are older types of anti depressants – they used to be prescribed before the newer ones such as Prozac were created.

MAOIs are still used and are said to be wonderfully effective for some patients who do not respond to anything else. But great care must be taken as MAOIs must not be combined with certain foods; if they are then it can be very dangerous, even fatal.

If you google MAOIs you’ll find a lot of info.
