We are planning on building a house in Texas in just a few months but first we need to find someone to rent our house in Maryland or buy it for a reasonable amount. Are there other platforms where we might place an ad other than Craig’s list. Should we contact a real estate attorney if we decide to rent long term? Thank you in advance. David Mullis

When we lived in California for an extended tour with the military, we had a property management firm for our house in Florida. You deal with the agent and they deal with the renters. They should keep an eye on the house for you—make sure it is a reputable firm. Some Realtors have rental departments.
If I were going to handle it myself, I think I would do a credit check on the clients and have a lawyer write a contract.
