When broiling, does the oven door really need to be open?
Urban legend or a real purpose? Mom always did it that way, but I don’t know why.

Who hasn’t wondered about this? I leave mine open because, in general, the thermostat will turn off with the door closed and you will be baking at a really high heat instead of broiling. I worry about spatters and catching on fire, too, so leaving it open works for me–and other in the family– as they do it too!
